control yourself.
"Those who cannot understand how to put their thoughts on ice should not enter into the heat of debate."
- Friedrich Nietzsche
----------------
The ice was cold.
The air was cold.
Deep breaths.
Ice cold deep breaths.
With one final breath,
one step,
two steps,
onto the ice.
Jitters,
and shivers
from the cold,
and from the fear.
Grip tightens,
fists clenched,
the feeling of giving up,
yet holding on.
--------
The feeling of trying,
yet being held back by the thought of failing.
The feeling of trying to paint a picture,
yet being held back by the thought of the end result.
Like,
Taking up a challenge,
something really challenging.
Yet there is no skill for it,
not the least bit.
What happened to trying?
What happened to planning?
What happened to slowing down?
What happened to time?
Is it wrong to give up at the thought of failure,
when failure hasn't even happened yet?
--------
yet being held back by the thought of the end result.
Like,
Taking up a challenge,
something really challenging.
Yet there is no skill for it,
not the least bit.
What happened to trying?
What happened to planning?
What happened to slowing down?
What happened to time?
Is it wrong to give up at the thought of failure,
when failure hasn't even happened yet?
--------
The hand behind this pen relives a failure every day.
