"Just living is not enough", said the butterfly, "one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower."
— Hans Christian Andersen.

we are always running for the thrill of it.

"Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add colour to my sunset sky."

- Rabindranath Tagore.

The rain was relentless. It refused to stop, and continued pouring diabolically, in spite of the screams and groans of all the drenched people running and scattering in search for shelter. Safely under the roof, the people sighed and began to wipe the water droplets off their skin. Nobody wanted to fall sick, nobody could afford to.  Everybody wanted to get to their next destination. Pronto. This rain wasn't giving them any chance of that. In fact, the rain began to fade away under the scorching sun. This made the rain drops harder to spot, under the bright sunlight, and a few impatient ones began to run out of the shelter. Unaware that that the rain was camouflaged by the sunlight, the unsuspecting impatient ones got drenched. Some people began to huddle around with each other to keep warm from the chilly wind that accompanied the rain. Some people began to curse and swear, raging about how they had somewhere else they needed to be. Some people began to form circles, and started to chat and get to know each other. Some people tried to steal from others, sneaking around between the sardine-packed shelter to get the most out of the time. Some people stood on their own, isolated and playing with their phones until it ran out of battery. Some people began to chain smoke at the despair of the rain situation, forgetting about the people around who might be pregnant women, children, old people or those with respiratory illnesses.

While everyone got busy, nobody noticed the salient presence of the one sitting in the middle of the rain. That one sitting in the middle of the rain did not have anyone to huddle. The one sitting in the middle of the rain did not say a word of complaint. The one sitting in the middle of the rain did not have any one to talk to. The one sitting in the middle of the rain did not even care a little of what possessions are worth. The one siting in the middle of the rain did not have a phone to be distracted on. The one sitting in the middle of the rain respected the process of mindfulness much more than enjoying the action of smoking.

While everyone got busy, nobody noticed the one siting in the middle of the rain. Why didn't the one sitting in the middle of the rain move? Why didn't the one sitting in the middle of the rain stay out of the rain? Why didn't the one sitting in the middle of the rain say anything? Why didn't the one sitting in the middle of the rain ask for help?

Did the one sitting in the middle of the rain even notice what was happening around?

In a selfish world where people most often care for their own well-being first, the level of ignorance is high. Everyone in the world are pointing fingers at each other, defending their welfare as priority and having conditions met first before proceeding to assist.

Was it selfless when the first person made the first step to ask the people around to huddle for warmth? Was it selfless when the first person made the first step to start shouting and complaining to get the attention of all the people around? Was it selfless when the first person suggested the idea of forming circles and having conversations for company and support? Was it selfless when the first person decided to collect resources from the people around to be put to a different use at a later time? Was it selfless when the first person took out the phone to search for ways to amend the current situation? Was it selfless when the first person started to chain-smoke specially squeezed to a more open area to be aware from vulnerable people around?

Was it selfless when the one sitting in the middle of the rain sat there alone to fight the rain alone and to accept punishment for all selfishness in life?

The rush in life would someday make this rain.
